Handmade Malas

Today, Malas have become popular fashion accessories. However, Malas began as a tool for spiritual practice and meditation. They enhance our meditations by helping to focus our mind and ground us in our practice. Many meditators believe the unique properties of the gemstones or beads used to make the Mala also have an effect on meditation. Malas are typically used in Mantra meditation techniques, but, mindfulness meditators will often use them in their practice to count & stay focused on the breath.

All our Malas are hand-made designs. They are full 108 bead Malas. And may be used for meditation or worn as a beautiful necklace. Please check out some of our designs below:

This mala is made with two of the most sacred beads within the Hindu & Buddhist Traditions – the Rudraksha & the Bodhi. The main body of the mala is made of Rudraksha beads. The significance of the Rudraksha bead stems from ancient India. It is considered a divine bead and is the most traditional bead used in mala making. The Rudraksha is a symbol of auspiciousness and brings the wearer inner peace, knowledge, power and enlightenment. It is also said to heal and protect its wearer, and is excellent for meditation. The Bodhi beads are the spacer beads which are sandwiched between two smaller tiger’s eye beads. The Bodhi bead is sacred because it was under the Bodhi Tree that Siddhartha Gautama, the spiritual teacher who most of us know better as the Buddha, is said to have attained enlightenment, or “Bodhi”. Therefore, the Bodhi bead is said to enrich the mind, bring serenity, and nurture the seed of enlightenment within us all. Tiger’s Eye is said to bring luck & protection. (Rudraksha & Bodhi bead = 8mm; Tiger’s Eye = 6mm)
